1. At this time, Beckett Grading Services accepts and grades most licensed cards up to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Additional fees will apply to items larger then 3x5. Please note that cards showing evidence of counterfeiting,
tampering, or restoration will be charged the full amount according to the service option selected. By not checking either of the “Authentic” boxes on the front of the submission form, your cards will be given a numeric grade if
the cards are deemed to be gradable by BGS standards. Usual grading fees apply. Please refer to www.beckett.com/grading for updated information.
2. All submissions must be addressed to Beckett Grading Services. Improperly addressed shipments are not subject to turnaround time selected. Cards should be sent in oversized (3.25" X 5") semi-rigid holders (such as a Card
Saver I). “Penny sleeves” should also be used in conjunction with the oversized semi-rigid holders. BGS will not be responsible for any damages incurred by the use of other holders.
3. All card submissions must be accompanied by a Beckett-issued submission form. All other forms, including handwritten copies, are null and void.
4. Please PRINT your name and account number (if you have one) in the upper right corner of the form. If you do not have an account number, one will be assigned to you.
6. Please be sure to notate your return shipping method of choice in the 'SHIP VIA' box. Standard shipping will be via FedEx Ground unless otherwise marked. Feel free to use your existing FedEx or UPS account # if you have
one. BGS reserves the right to change carriers without notice unless a shipping account is being used.
7. List all cards you are submitting with quantity, year of issue, set name or company (please use standard Beckett terminology when possible), card number, card/player name, and your declared value per lot. You may use
additional forms to list more cards, but please only choose one service level per submission form.
8. Select 'Grading Service' level. Check one level only. (See top of rules section for more details). Please separate cards based on submission levels and requirements.
9. To determine amount owed, use the 'Calculating $ to be paid to BGS' area. Total the number of cards submitted and multiply by the price per card for the grading service you select. Figure return postage and insurance using
appropriate tables. Add 8.25% Sales Tax to the cost of service and shipping if you are a Texas resident only, unless the cards are for re-sale and you provide us with a valid re-sale tax ID number.
examined or processed until payment is made in full. Don't forget the expiration date, security code, and signature. All payments must be in U.S. funds. Returned checks will be assessed a $30.00 fee.
11. Be sure to include return insurance and ship to address on top of submission form. Send to the attention of 'Beckett Grading Services. Beckett will not be responsible for damages on packages sent for grading so insurance
and tracking is recommended. Owner's declared value is used for determining insurance cost of the return shipment and the maximum amount that can be claimed for damage or loss in shipment for any card or cards. If a
claim is necessary at any point, the value of each card will be based upon the actual market value not to exceed the insured value the customer assigned to the card.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Beckett Grading form?

The Beckett Grading form is a document used by collectors to submit their trading cards for grading and authentication by Beckett Grading Services (BGS). It includes sections for personal information, card details, and payment options. Proper completion of this form is essential for the grading process.

  2. How do I fill out the Beckett Grading form?

Begin by providing your name, address, and contact information at the top of the form. Next, list each card you wish to submit, including the year, set name, card number, player name, and declared value. Be sure to select the grading service level you desire. Complete the payment section accurately to avoid delays.

  3. What types of cards can I submit for grading?

BGS accepts most licensed cards measuring up to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. This includes sports cards, trading cards, and other collectibles. If your card exceeds these dimensions, additional fees will apply. Always check for any restrictions or updates on the BGS website before submitting.

  4. What happens if my cards are deemed altered?

If a card is found to be altered, it will not receive a numeric grade. Instead, it will be sealed and authenticated in a Beckett Authentic/Altered case. You must indicate your preference for grading or authentication by checking the appropriate box on the form.

  5. How are grading fees calculated?

Grading fees are based on the number of cards submitted and the selected service level. To calculate the total cost, multiply the number of cards by the fee per card, then add any additional charges for oversized items, return insurance, and shipping. Be sure to include applicable sales tax if you are a Texas resident.

  6. What payment methods are accepted?

BGS accepts checks, money orders, and credit cards for payment. Ensure that all payments are in U.S. funds. If using a credit card, provide the card number, expiration date, and CVC code on the form. Do not send cash, as it will not be accepted.

  7. How should I package my cards for submission?

Cards should be placed in oversized semi-rigid holders, such as Card Saver I, and should also be protected with penny sleeves. This helps prevent damage during shipping. BGS is not responsible for any damages incurred due to improper packaging.

  8. What shipping options are available for returns?

BGS offers several shipping methods, including FedEx Priority Overnight, 2-Day, Express Saver, and Ground services. You can also use your own FedEx or UPS account number for shipping. Be sure to indicate your preferred shipping method on the form to ensure timely delivery.

  9. What if I have more than 12 cards to submit?

If you have more than 12 cards, you can use a second sheet of the submission form to list additional cards. However, make sure to choose only one service level per submission form. This ensures that your submission is processed efficiently.

Common mistakes

Filling out the Beckett Grading form can be a straightforward process, but many people make common mistakes that can lead to delays or issues with their submissions. One frequent error is failing to provide complete contact information. It’s essential to include your name, address, phone number, and email address accurately. Incomplete information can result in difficulties reaching you regarding your submission or returning your cards.

Another mistake often seen is neglecting to check the appropriate boxes for grading options. The form allows you to choose whether you want a numeric grade or just authentication. By not making your preference clear, you risk having your cards graded differently than you intended. This could lead to disappointment, especially if you were expecting a specific service.

Many individuals also overlook the importance of calculating the total fees correctly. The form includes a section for calculating the amount owed based on the number of cards and the grading fees. Failing to perform these calculations accurately can lead to underpayment or overpayment, complicating the submission process. Always double-check your math to ensure you’ve included all applicable fees, such as grading fees, return postage, and insurance.

Additionally, some submitters forget to sign the form. A signature is not just a formality; it confirms that you agree to the terms and conditions outlined by Beckett Grading Services. Without a signature, your submission could be deemed invalid, causing further delays in processing your cards.

Lastly, it’s vital to use the correct shipping method and address your package properly. Many people mistakenly send their submissions to the wrong address or choose a shipping method that doesn’t align with their needs. Ensure you follow the guidelines for shipping and include the return shipping method on the form. This attention to detail can save you time and potential headaches down the line.

Dos and Don'ts

When filling out the Beckett Grading form, it’s essential to follow certain guidelines to ensure a smooth submission process. Here are five things you should and shouldn't do:

  • Do: Clearly print your name and contact information in the designated areas. This helps avoid any confusion regarding your submission.
  • Don't: Use handwritten copies of the form. Only the official Beckett-issued submission form will be accepted.
  • Do: Use appropriate holders for your cards, such as oversized semi-rigid holders. This protects your cards during shipping.
  • Don't: Forget to check the correct grading service level. Select only one level per submission form to avoid complications.
  • Do: Include payment in full with your submission. Without payment, your cards will not be processed.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can help ensure that your grading experience is efficient and successful.

Misconceptions

  • All cards can be graded by Beckett Grading Services. This is not true. Beckett only grades licensed cards that meet specific size and condition criteria. Cards showing signs of counterfeiting, tampering, or restoration will not be graded.
  • Payment is optional when submitting cards. In reality, all submissions must include payment in full. Cards will not be processed until the payment is received.
  • Handwritten forms are acceptable for submissions. This is a misconception. Only Beckett-issued submission forms are valid. Handwritten copies are not accepted.
  • All cards will receive a numeric grade. This is misleading. If cards are deemed altered or not gradable, they will be authenticated but not given a numeric grade.
  • Shipping insurance is not necessary. On the contrary, it is highly recommended. Beckett is not responsible for any damage or loss during shipping, so insurance is crucial for protecting your cards.
  • Turnaround times are guaranteed. This is a common misunderstanding. Turnaround times are estimates and can vary based on the volume of submissions and operational factors.
  • All cards submitted must be sent in rigid holders. While it is recommended, cards can also be submitted in “penny sleeves” as long as they are used with oversized semi-rigid holders.
  • Beckett Grading Services does not charge for oversized items. This is incorrect. There are additional fees for items larger than 3x5 inches.
  • Texas residents do not need to pay sales tax. This is false. Texas residents must add 8.25% sales tax to their total, unless they provide a valid resale tax ID number.

Key takeaways

  • Ensure to fill out the Beckett Grading form completely. Missing information can delay processing and may lead to complications with your submission.

  • Use standard Beckett terminology when listing card details such as set name and card number. This helps in accurate processing and grading.

  • Include payment in full with your submission. Cards will not be graded until payment is received, which can lead to longer wait times.

  • Check the appropriate boxes regarding grading and authentication. This determines whether your cards will receive a numeric grade or just be authenticated.

  • Use proper shipping methods. Cards should be sent in oversized semi-rigid holders to prevent damage during transit.

  • Consider return insurance for your cards. This protects your investment during shipping and ensures you can claim for any loss or damage.
